welcome to lexicon part 8 tone style and genre  first string on the talk about 10 words and this entire PowerPoint is inspired by tone is the author's attitude toward the material of the audience or both I'm also right now it's very difficult so it the best way of thinking about it is its involves the stylistic means by which the author tries to convey his or her attitude so anytime you talk about Tone If you say something has a jovial tone or something has in diet take tone you need to be able to show at show the choices that the author made in order to create fat tone and of course tone is Central to The Works meaning because it controls the reader's response because if I'm saying something to you with a condescending tone I hopefully receive it differently than if I'm saying something to you with  support of town and in order to shift interpret complexities of tone you have to make inferences you have to figure it out which is why on the multiple choice section of the AP test tone is off I'm the lowest scoring question questions about tone fewest people get it right because you have to infer a lot and I know cheat on Facebook statuses tone is much easier to determine between the audience and speaker when the facts obviously aren't the same irony irony is the contrast in what is stated explicitly and what is really meant or the difference between what appears to be coming up with style you're describing all of the things that the author does and then your job would be to relate that to the purpose how is it appropriate that Francis Macon used bunch of parallel
