today we're going to go over literary devices a lot of this will be review  so I'm also included episode 1 the Super League of frightened tell me happy and odd looking animals Adventure  they're called the super LOL  this is where I started to lose it when I'm termites  okay first off point of view this is the vantage point perspective from which a story is told and it includes an awareness of speaker's tone or attitude so the robot said LOL and we can look at his tone and attitude in that he by the way is the head of the terrible belligerent Robot Band you can tell that he's the villain because he has the robot white cat  first person point of the story with the first person pronoun Transformations Orlando Lancaster Sprouts in first person what restaurant has the effect of endearing Us in some way to the speaker we empathize with the speaker more of course we don't empathize with the belligerent robot fans because they're belligerent but generally it says and it also is limiting because we only know what that person is thinking  in contrast third pinpoint of you which uses he she is generally more distant from the character sometimes there's a nice ironic distance so we can observe the characters and see how their behavior is contradictory be judgmental of them unlike that I wear we're kind of stuck in the character's head I'm third person omniscient is when the narrator with god-like knowledge presents the thoughts and actions of any are all characters and this is sometimes used to show tensions a compatibilities between characters like we're able to see all of them at once a lot of novels that use this to show the complexities of reality we get in the heads of a villain and realize how some of their motives make sense or something like that third person limited omniscient is presenting only the feelings and thoughts of one character and the actions of all of the remaining characters in general Harry Potter is third person limited omniscient that we get the one weird time that were seen the meeting of the Prime Minister and the head of Ministry of and that's not even like one of his dreams the super LOL were at Great risk for hover and that strange worm try to think of his and some other belligerent robots were planning a horrible attack oh wait I have sound effects I could have thought in an aphorism Limited statement of known authorship which expresses a general truth or moral principle it can also be a memorable summation of the author's point since that you pull out but the point is that it's just as nice brief statement so an example from Ralph Waldo Emerson to be great is to be misunderstood I quote Ralph Waldo Emerson a lot which is ironic because one of his quotations is I hate quotations tell me then another one Benjamin Franklin is famous for his aphorisms a penny saved is a penny earned Hansel I'm from the super lol this lion says Hey heart get it because Hearts without an e means deer find the nearest Dost thou love life then do not squander time for that the stuff life is made of and after poignant and meaningful aphorism the hearts like  should I scream what's a gram very similar to an aphorism with some slight differences it's a brief pointed statement so they're both terse with elevated style that often uses rhetorical places such as parallelism so the distinction is aphorisms are pretty much Proverbs like they're about the meaning and I'm going to take that light to my life where is epigrams are kind of about the language like that since just the jewel of words and cleverness so more about style and I Frozen's more about substance although epigrams can have substance as you will see so from Samuel Taylor Coleridge it's not the guy picture below it says what is an epigram of War fish whole its body brevity and wit its Soul so half a gram is in an epigram using very concise language with a lot of style right we have similar ation going on we have inverted as sentences a bit  actually those aren't even sentences but it's inverted send text in some ways and so it's very stylistic yet as his quote points out it's also supposed to be meaningful Oscar Wilde is the king he's featured below he's the king of epigrams so we have we are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars that one's closest stoppers on my just really like that one so I included it but more epigram like are always forgive your enemies nothing annoys them so much some cause happiness wherever they go others whenever they go and a cynic is a man who knows the price of everything in the value of nothing so these are more playful with work they're showing his command of language often humorous witty okay and then to further confuse you epigraph so epigram is the jewel of words at the graph is the use of a quotation at the beginning of a work that hints at its theme so Peter used this I don't know what my quotation is there? Is there enough the graph at the beginning of his on how to Mark book from Billy Collins note effort let's just make this extra confusing refers to the text on a tombstone so epigram is Jewel of words epigraph is turn up the beginning of an essay if it's not really connected to BSA and Epitaph is the words you put on a tombstone and so then from our super LOL he's reading newspaper and once again Ralph Waldo Emerson this is a true quote here's an epigraph for the article about ice cream maker sales on the rise we don't breasts are wet for making her house Pleasant to our friend so we buy ice cream so that's an epigraph for that fake news article that I made send it makes the duck goose thing from the super LOL want ice cream and then anecdote nn what is a short simple Narrative of an incident often it's used for humor or to make a point stories after the reader's attention so there is the creation of some those there's that just overall sympathy empathy being able to really illustrate a point so in Why Don't We complain instead just saying Americans would rather be uncomfortable then Rock the Boat Buckley gives an anecdote about this one time he was in this really hot train car and so some of us might think I've been in situations where things were really horrible and no one complained mom and then we have this older member of the BRB and he tells us though that's one time when I was a young member of the Terrible Barbie I destroyed the roof I'll be real good just left the room and they thought it was her second but it wasn't haha I'm going to give you a second to think about what all of that means BRB got it alright Anna gave that other guy and idea and then turn another Parables from the Bible but then there's the parable from this topiary giraffe who's in the Super LOL  he's like I know RC I don't know I know you want ice cream now but remember the story about the impatient gazelle you know what the belligerent robotic and so then the birds one of them that doesn't have a beef or like alright we better better come down oh that's not supposed to be there okay and apostrophe figure of speech I know it's a type of punctuation for does that stuff but it's also something else it's a figure of speech that directly addresses an absent personified abstraction such as Liberty or left so it's when you're talking to something that can't answer and this can add a million familiarity like how close to this person I'm talking to them even though they're not here or emotional intensity so when Romeo says arise arise Fair sign and kill the envious Moon because first he's using a metaphor to describe Juliet is the Sun says he's not saying this to Juliet he's muttering it in her garden while he's being kind of a creeper so it's an apostrophe and then when is like ice cream where are you and I need you and there we get the emotional intensity and needs ice cream for land was closed okay and a flashback interrupts the chronological order of a work to tell of an earlier time and anytime that Nice France woman warrior decides to mess with chronological order right that's kind of the default we usually tell stories in the order that things happen so when they choose not to do that it's our job to analyze what effect they wanted to have by doing that and so hear the super LOL bears where is  any has a flashback to a previous slide ice cream maker sale On The Rise which leads us to the central idea or message of a work and the Insight it offers into white usually the theme is unstated in fictional works but it nonfiction the fee maybe directly stated like a thesis especially an expository or argumentative writing writing it's trying explain or persuade  and yeah you're right with me so the theme of this power points is ice cream makes everything better PowerPoint go out there and use rhetoric well
