Tawnee Luafalemana Named New Girls' Volleyball Head Coach
May 21, 2024: We are excited to announce the hiring of Tawnee Luafalemana as our new girls' volleyball head coach. She is the eleventh head coach in program history.
Luafalemana comes to Bishop Montgomery with impressive playing and coaching experience. After playing at Carson High School, she played collegiately at Blinn College in Texas, the College of Southern Idaho and the University of Utah. At Blinn and Southern Idaho, she helped lead both schools to junior college national titles. In 2015 and 2016, she was named NJCAA Player of the Year (top junior college player in the country). At the University of Utah, she was a 2-time All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection and a 2-time AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. In 2019, she was named Most Inspirational Athlete at the University of Utah. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Utah in Health, Society & Policy with a minor in Sociology and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. She went on to play for two seasons on the AVP Pro Beach Tour after college.
Her coaching experience includes both indoor and beach volleyball at the high school and club levels. She served as an assistant varsity coach at Lawndale High School before moving on the St. Joseph’s High School in Lakewood. At St. Joseph’s, she served as the junior varsity head coach, assistant varsity coach and head coach of the beach team. As head coach of the beach team, she led her squad to three Del Rey League team titles. She has also served as the head coach of several teams for the Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club. She coached the 13/14’s from 2020-21, and she currently is the head coach of the 14’s and the 17’s.
“We are excited to add a dynamic coach to our girls’ volleyball program,” says BMHS Athletic Director Doug Mitchell. “Tawnee brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program and she is an engaging and charismatic leader.”
