Mr. Schugt's Homepage

Welcome, My name is Chris Schugt and I have been teaching here at Bishop Montgomery since 2019. I am an alum as well having graduated in 2001. My education background includes a bachelor's degree from Holy Names University and a master's degree from Loyola Marymount University.  In addition to that, I have earned my teaching credential from LMU as well.

I currently teach algebra I, geometry and algebra II.  In the past, I have also taught up to pre-calculus.  I taught at  Saint Anthony High School in Long Beach for 5 years and I have taught middle school math for St. Raymond School for the 5 years before that.

My teaching philosophy embodies and open-mindset that focuses on learning from mistakes and students being a on constant path of growth. I like to tell kids that instead of saying I'm never going to get this or I don't understand it to instead say "I don't know it yet".  Students should have the opportunity to show their growth. Another aspect of this growth mindset is being in "discover" mode versus being in "defense" mode. One is about being fearless and exploring while the other is being in a state of caution and stress. Being in discovery mode in math may be a stretch for some but the payoff is tremendous.
