Carmelita Jeter '98 Clocks Fastest 100 of 2011

On June 4, 2011, BMHS alumna Carmelita Jeter '98 won the women's 100 meters at the Prefontaine Classic in 10.70 seconds, a world best so far this season.

In May, Jeter won the women's 100 meters at the Colorful Daegu meet in South Korea by running 11.09 seconds.

Jeter currently holds the title of "fastest woman in the world." In 2009, she ran the second-fastest 100m time ever recorded by a woman when she clocked in at 10.64 in a meet in Shanghai. The only other woman to record a faster time in the 100m is the late Florence Griffith-Joyner, who clocked in at 10.49 in 1988.
