Senior and Campus Ministry Support Mychal's Place

Last semester, Gabrielle Daniels ‘22 and the Campus Ministry team organized a Denim Day to benefit Mychal’s Place. Located in the city of Hawthorne, Mychal’s Place is an organization that “provides support, training and opportunities to youth and young adults with developmental disabilities to build their independence and pursue their goals and dreams.” Daniels volunteers regularly at Mychal’s Place and has a much closer connection to the school. Her brother, Darius, is a student at Mychal’s Place and Gabrielle enjoys helping and supporting him whenever she can. Recently, she assisted with their production of the Lion King, where students acted out the play.

When she was a freshman, Gabrielle remembers being inspired by her senior Campus Ministry leaders and hoped that she could one day do the same for her peers. Now as a member of Bishop Montgomery’s Campus Ministry team, Gabrielle leads our school community in their spiritual journey as well. She shares her story at retreats about her brother Darius and their journey together. Gabrielle wants to study science and pursue a career in the medical field. “I want to be an E.R. doctor and continue helping others,” said Daniels. Through the Denim Day fundraiser, the Bishop community raised $1,100 for Mychal’s Place. Gabrielle presented the check to the Founder, Mr. Ed Lynch, which will help the organization with their after-school programs and adult day care.
