Bishop Montgomery alumna Patty Froehlich-Gasso '80, Head Softball Coach at the University of Oklahoma, led her team to the 2021 NCAA title with a 5-1 win over Florida State in the finals of the Women's College World Series on June 10, 2021. For Gasso and the Sooners, it was the fifth national championship in program history (2000, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2021).
Gasso completed her 27th season as head coach at Oklahoma and has compiled a record of 1,336-342-2 and a winning percentage of .796. Her winning percentage is the highest of all Division I softball coaches with at least 1,000 wins.
Gasso was a 4-year varsity player while at Bishop Montgomery and had a decorated career. She went on to play at El Camino College and Long Beach State before starting her coaching career. She was inducted into the BMHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
