Advanced Art

Advanced Art is an advanced studio course in which students will increase technical skills, develop a more sophisticated approach to process and subject matter, and create a portfolio of individual work. Students will be expected to create more complex works utilizing concepts and techniques developed in Art 1/2. The Elements and Principles of Art will continue to be stressed and explored. Students must be committed to working inside and outside the classroom. Refinement of observational drawing skills will be stressed, and new media and techniques will be introduced. Students will work with various art materials such as; charcoal, acrylic paint, pencil, colored pencil, oil pastel and ink, and NEW media of photography and printmaking. Students will analyze visual artworks through group and individual written and oral critiques.

In this class, students will keep a sketchbook to explore artistic processes, experiment with materials, and analyze work. Through experimentation and refinement, each person will create a body of work that includes observational drawing, mixed media, and a variety of self-chosen media. The studio environment of the class will be used to support analysis, reflection, and refinement of work. Students will be expected to meet deadlines, work consistently in class, and devote time outside class to develop ideas, create sketches, and prepare materials.
