Norton Cummings Memorial Scholarship
The Norton-Cummings Memorial Scholarship was established in September 2020 to support student-athletes in the BMHS football program who have a financial need. The cost to educate a student at Bishop Montgomery is approximately $15,000 per year, which includes tuition, books, uniforms, and fees. Over 35% of Bishop Montgomery students receive tuition assistance due to a financial need. Scholarships such as the Norton-Cummings Memorial Scholarship are an integral part of the tuition assistance program at BMHS.
The Norton-Cummings Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of former teacher and football coach Bill Norton, and in memory of former BMHS teacher and football chaplain Rev. Jerome Cummings. Coach Norton served as the head football coach from 1977-1983 and led the Knights to 2 league titles and the 1983 CIF Finals. Fr. Cummings taught at BMHS from 1977-1979. He passed away in 1997.
The scholarship is awarded to current student-athletes who are on the football team, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have financial need. The scholarship was established through the generosity of Angela & Nick Tonsich '79.
