BMHS Senior Earns Full Scholarship to Wisconsin

Torrance, CA (January 5, 2017): Over Christmas break, Bishop Montgomery senior Chelsea Hylton '17 received a gift she will most likely never forget when she learned that her entire college tuition would be paid for through a scholarship from the Posse Foundation. Hylton is one of 100 students in the Los Angeles chapter of the Posse Foundation to win a full, four-year tuition award. In all, over 2,600 students submitted applications through the foundation.

Through this program, students apply for the scholarship through the foundation's partner colleges and universities. As part of the process, students submit an essay through the college's application and then must go through three rounds of interviews. Hylton will attend the University of Wisconsin where she intends to major in communications and minor in either sociology or Spanish.

For Hylton, the entire process began in August when she was nominated to apply by her guidance counselor, Ms. Angelica Diaz, and BMHS Principal Rosemary Libbon. "When I received the phone call that I was receiving the scholarship, I could not believe it at first," said Hylton. "There were so many applicants that it was not really something I thought I would get."
