Torrance, CA (March 17, 2014): Students in two of Bishop Montgomery's largest groups, Drama Lab and the BMHS Band, recently returned from exciting trips.
Twenty-two members of Drama Lab, along with moderators Megan Moreau and Melissa Rudder, traveled to New York City recently. The purpose of the trip was to allow the students to experience Broadway and other aspects of New York City that make it central to worldwide entertainment. The group saw Broadway plays Newsies, Once, and Bullets Over Broadway. Students were also able to meet performers from each show and attend a talk-back with part of the cast of Newsies. They also attended a workshop with Mary Boyer, a working actress (and acting teacher) recently seen in Orange is the New Black. They toured Radio City Music Hall and met one of the Rockettes. In addition to being able to experience a variety of musical theater styles and meet with actors, musicians, and dancers, the group visited Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Central Park. Members of the BMHS Band, under the direction of Eric Hankey, traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend as part of the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival. The members of the band performed at a concert at Cabrillo College as well as at Golden Gate Park. The students performed and sang very well and had an opportunity to do some sightseeing in San Francisco. (Pictured are band members in front of the Sesnon House at Cabrillo College).
