Torrance, CA (February 11, 2014): The National College Baseball Hall of Fame has announced its newest class of inductees for 2014. Included in the list of seven honorees is Bishop Montgomery alumnus Bill Bordley '76. He joins six others as part of the organization's ninth class. With this exclusive honor, Bordley is recognized as one of the greatest college baseball players of all time.
Bordley, a left-handed pitcher, had an outstanding career at USC. In two years as a Trojan (1977-1978), he was 26-2 with a 2.58 ERA. His winning percentage of .929 is still a school record today and he is the only pitcher in USC history to be a 2-time, first team All-American. In 1978, Bordley led USC to the National Championship, winning the clinching game in the College World Series against Arizona State.
At Bishop Montgomery, Bordley led the Knights to the 1975 CIF Championship after going 16-1 with a 0.45 ERA. That year he threw 115.2 innings with 176 strikeouts. He holds virtually every major pitching record at BMHS. Following the 1975 season, he was named Camino Real League MVP, Daily Breeze Player of the Year, and CIF Player of the Year (which he won in 1976 as well).
