McTeacher Night Fundraiser Equals McSuccess for Senior Class

To cap off Winter Spirit Week, Bishop Montgomery’s senior class organized a fundraiser that not helped them raise money for their prom, it also brought smiles to many in the Bishop community. On Friday, January 31, over a dozen faculty members took turns working shifts from 5-8pm at the school’s local McDonald’s on Torrance Boulevard.  Each faculty was paired with a McDonald’s employee and assisted with taking orders, working the drive-thru window, making French fries and McFlurries, and filling orders.

The restaurant buzzed all evening as students and their families came for dinner and to see their teachers working outside of the classroom. Many teachers placed tip jars on the counter in the hopes spare change would help increase the Class of 2014’s profits. English teachers Teresa McDorman and Debbie Skelley took the fundraising fun one step further by setting up a podium at the entrance and, acting as maître d’s, escorted families to open tables. Development Director Andy Marafino worked the 5-5:30pm shift, and after such an enjoyable experience says he’s more than willing to do it again: “Everyone’s been to McDonald’s and knows what the drill is there. It was fun to be on the other side of the counter to support our seniors… and, I wasn’t bad at too bad at making McDonald's Sweet Tea.”

The evening proved to be a tremendous success not just for the senior class treasury, which added over $900, but also for the Bishop community. An evening where students, teachers, and families could come together was just the right recipe for fun.
