Boys' Basketball #17 in State Pre-Season Rankings

Torrance, CA (November 19, 2013): Bishop Montgomery's boys' basketball team begins its season at the end of November ranked #17 in the state according to CalHiSports pre-season rankings. The Knights are coming off a 2012-13 season that saw them go 32-2, including winning their first 29 games.

Despite losing four Division I players to graduation, coach Doug Mitchell's squad returns what is arguably the best backcourt in the state in senior point guard Justin Bibbins '14 and junior guard Stephen Thompson, Jr. '15. Even more impressively, Bibbins and Thompson are also two of the top students in their respective classes.

Last week, Bibbins signed a National letter-of-intent with Long Beach State. As a junior last year, he averaged 12.9 points and 5.4 assists and was named 1st Team All-Del Rey League, 1st Team Daily Breeze All-Area and 2nd Team State All-Junior Team by CalHiSports.com.

Thompson is not only one of the top shooters in the state, but in the country as well. He has already received scholarship offers from 15 schools, including Harvard, Vanderbilt, ASU, UNLV, Boston College, New Mexico, and Gonzaga. Last year as a sophomore, Thompson averaged 15.8 points and was named 1st Team All-Del Rey League, 1st Team Daily Breeze All-Area and 1st Team State All-Sophomore Team by CalHiSports.com.

The Knights open the season on November 30 against Villa Park in a game played at Ocean View HS in Huntington Beach. Game time is 7:00pm.
