Football Makes Playoffs in Exciting Fashion

Torrance, CA (November 8, 2013): The BMHS varsity football team found itself in an interesting spot on Friday night. Beat a high-powered Verbum Dei team on the road and they would finish in second place in the Del Rey League. A loss and a Cantwell win at St. Bernard would mean to he Knights would be out of the playoffs for the first time in three years. Earlier on Friday morning, the Knights lost a coin flip in the event of a three-way tie for third place in league.

The night did not start out well for the Knights against Verbum Dei in a game played al LA Southwest College. The Knights found themselves down 32-7 at one point, but staged a furious rally in the second half before falling 38-31.

But the suspense was not over. The only chance for the Knights to make the playoffs was now in the hands of St. Bernard. While the Knights were back on the bus, and following that game on smart phones, they learned that St. Bernard staged their own comeback against Cantwell, eventually winning 43-42.

It is the fourth consecutive playoff appearance under head coach Ed Hodgkiss. The Knights will find out their first round playoff opponent on Sunday when the CIF office releases the pairings. They finished 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the Del Rey League.
