Torrance, CA (October 15, 2013): All through the month of October, the Bishop Montgomery football teams, both JV and varsity, are wearing pink items in support of cancer research. For each item the players choose to wear, they are making a donation of $5 to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. This fund supports research, provides grants, and drives inspiration in the fight against women's cancers.
The fund is named for the former women's basketball coach at North Carolina State University who passed away in 2009 after a long battle with breast cancer. Yow is one of the most successful women's college basketball coaches in history. She is one of only six Division I coaches to achieve 700 career victories.
"We wanted to do something that will make an impact in the lives of those who are fighting the battle against cancer," explained BMHS head coach Ed Hodgkiss. "All of the varsity players are wearing a pink ribbon decal on their helmets and many of the players have chosen to wear other items in support of this great cause."
