Torrance, CA (September 24, 2013): After much discussion between BMHS principal Rosemary Libbon, BMHS band director Eric Hankey, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, what was once just an idea - having an all-Archdiocesan high school marching band - has become a reality.
The Los Angeles Catholic Schools Band (LACSB) will showcase musicians and dancers of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. One of the goals of this large marching band is to perform in such events as the Rose Parade, Macy's Parade, Inauguration Parade, and to tour in Europe, Asia and beyond.
Under the direction of Bishop Montgomery's own Eric Hankey, the LACSB plans to have its debut performance in this year's Hollywood Christmas Parade on December 1, 2013.
To date, six schools have committed 200-250 students to the band, which will include woodwind, brass, and drumline sections as well as colorguard performers. The following schools have made a commitment to the LACSB:
- Bishop Montgomery High School (founding member) - 45 students
- Junipero Serra (founding member) - 40 students
- Chaminade Prep (founding member) - 45 students
- Cathedral - 20-30 students
- Bishop Alemany - 20-30 students
- Loyola - 30-60 students
In order to fulfill its mission, the LACSB is in need of short-term start-up funds and a long-term budget plan. If you are interested in learning how you can help, contact Eric Hankey, director, at [email protected].
