Moeller Named CIF Player of the Year

Torrance, CA (June 12, 2013): Bishop Montgomery volleyball standout Cameron Moeller '13 was named CIF-SS Division IV Player of the Year today. Moeller, an outside hitter who filled in at times all over the court due to injuries on the team, helped lead the Knights to their best season in school history.

In addition to being named CIF Player of the Year, Moeller was also named 2013 Del Rey League MVP (he was a 3-time 1st Team All-Del Rey League selection) and BMHS' Spring Sports Male Distinguished Athlete of the Year. He graduated Summa Cum Laude on May 31 with a 4.40 GPA. He will attend UC Irvine in the fall.

Moeller led the Knights in almost every statistical hitting category in 2013. He finished the season with 60 aces, 523 kills, 324 digs, 68 blocks, and a .402 hitting percentage. "He is incredibly hardworking, intelligent, humble, and above all, a terrific teammate," shared his coach, Kevin Norman.

Moeller is a large reason why the Knights advanced to the CIF-SS Divsion IV finals in 2013. In the CIF-SS semi-finals against St. Margaret's, Moeller took matters into his own hands in the 5th and deciding set. Down 8-5 in a game to 15, Moeller jump-served 10 straight points through two timeouts and multiple substitutions by St. Margaret's to win a thrilling match in which the Knights were down 2-0 at one point.

Despite losing in the CIF-SS finals to Cathedral, the Knights advanced to the Southern California regional final (there are no other regional playoffs) before losing a thrilling 5-set match to San Diego Francis Parker High School.

The Knights finished 27-13 on the season under head coach Kevin Norman. In addition to Moeller, two other volleyball players were named to the All-CIF team: junior setter Travis Pyrek '14 and senior outside hitter Eddie Specht '13.
