Boys' Tennis Has Great Showing at League Finals

Torrance, CA (May 3, 2013): Bishop Montgomery's boys' tennis team, which went undefeated in league play this year to capture their 4th straight title, also had a great showing at the Del Rey League Individual finals yesterday at Whittier Narrows.

Leading the way for the Knights was the top doubles team of junior Austin Gabriel '14 and sophomore Jonathan Judan '15. Gabriel and Judan won the doubles title with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the final over a doubles team of Hulbert/Berhane of La Salle. They have qualified for the CIF Individual playoffs. Gabriel and Judan finished the league season 28-2. They are 31-8 overall.

On the singles side, sophomore Spencer Higgins '15 (pictured individually) battled his way to the semifinals before losing to the eventual singles champion Andy Choi of St. Monica. However, Higgins' day was not done. In the third place match, which determines who advances to CIF playoffs, Higgins won a thrilling match over Adrian Nguyen of Bosco Tech, 6-7, 7-5, 6-0. Higgins finished 23-2 in league and he is 26-11 overall.
