Drama Lab Students Head to San Diego

Torrance, CA (April 22, 2013): On April 12-14, nineteen Drama Lab juniors and seniors traveled to San Diego for a weekend filled with shows, tours, and fun. Led by Drama Directors Mr. Masters, Mrs. Moreau, and Mrs. Rudder (along with some parent volunteers), the students spent their time learning more about their craft and had opportunities to speak with professional actors and comedians.

The group saw two plays - the musical "Assassins" and "The Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder." They were also able to take in an improv show by the National Comedy Theatre troupe. In addition to the plays, the students toured the three theatres of the Old Globe and had the opportunity to tour the campus of the University of San Diego.

For the students, however, the highlight of the trip was going backstage to meet the cast of "Assassins" and getting the chance to speak to the improv group. Drama Lab co-president Lauren Hugo '13 was particularly thrilled to go behind the scenes. "Hearing what the cast members had to say about performing and dress rehearsals gave more depth to what we do," explained Hugo about meeting the cast of "Assassins." When asked if the cast members had any advice for the students, Hugo explained that the professionals told them that they were already on the right track. "They told us that acting was a lot of hard work, but that we should stick with it if it is something we truly enjoy."
