Freshman Wins Barnes & Noble Essay Contest

Torrance, CA (March 19, 2013): Bishop Montgomery freshman Megan Madrigal '16 recently won the local Barnes & Noble "My Favorite Teacher" Essay Contest and will be honored at a ceremony on April 18, 2013.

The contest asked students to write an essay about a teacher who has influenced their lives and why they appreciate and admire them. Madrigal, from Ascension Lutheran School in Torrance, wrote about her junior high school English Literature teacher, Mr. Banke. "He taught me to love literature," explained Madrigal. "Because of him, I love books and I love to read."

On April 18, 2013, Madrigal will be honored, along with Mr. Banke, at a celebration at the Barnes & Noble at Del Amo Mall. Madrigal, who would like to become a writer ("novels or screenplays," she explains), will read her essay at the 4:30pm celebration.

By winning the local contest, Madrigal will automatically be entered into Barnes & Noble's regional contest.

Come out on April 18th to Barnes & Noble to support Megan.
