·         College Visits, including Catholic University, George Washington, and others

·         High School visit to a D.C. area Catholic high school, to rehearse & perform music together

·         Meetings with local elected officials: Janice Hahn, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, as possible

·         Tour White House, Capitol, monuments, National Cathedral

·         Performance at World War II Monument on National Mall

·         Tour and meet musicians at US Armed Forces School Of Music

·         Enjoy local cuisine and leisure activities, including DC Zoo & possible Potomac cruise

One of the most exciting reasons to do this trip at this time is that Mr. Hankey’s brother, Michael Hankey, is a U.S. State Department official. Michael has been posted to Nigeria, Iraq, Yemen, and Egypt, and he and his family are now semi-permanent residents of Washington, D.C. – they have always had a home and family there. Throughout his career working with arts and cultural agencies and performers representing the U.S. abroad, he has come to know several artists from various venues that our group may be interested in seeing and learning more about to hear about their work, their experiences overseas, and the latest developments in the field of cultural diplomacy. Also, now that Michael is on assignment in Washington, he can be our personal tour guide for the entire Washington, D.C. metro area. He can also arrange for our students to meet U.S. State Department officials to discuss bilingual and multilingual (and English-speaking) career opportunities, as well as scholarships for high school and college students (including the National Security Language Initiative program).
