Knights Score 110 Points in Win Over LB Millikan

Torrance, CA (December 6, 2012): The Boys' Basketball team beat Long Beach Milikan 110-57 last night in the 2nd round of the Trevor Arizza Westchester Classic at Westchester HS. It was the most point the team scored since 2003.

Write-up from The Daily Breeze
Bishop Montgomery's boys basketball team set up an early-season tournament showdown with Del Rey League rival Serra with one of its most prolific offense showings in years.

Lamond Murray Jr.'s 25 points led the way for a high-powered Bishop Montgomery offensive attack in a 110-57 win Wednesday over Millikan High in the second round of the Trevor Ariza Westchester Tipoff Classic.

Murray was one of the six players to score in double figures for Bishop Montgomery (2-0), which set up a semifinal showdown with Serra on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Westchester.

Last year, Bishop Montgomery and Serra met in the tournament final. The Knights won 55-44, but lost their next two meetings to the Cavaliers in league play.

Niko Filipovic had 20 points for Bishop Montgomery in the win over Millikan. Stephon Jovanovic added 14 points.

Assistant coach Kareem Mutrie said it was the first time Bishop Montgomery had gone over 100 points in "a long time."

"Not while any of the guys on our current team were here," Mutrie said. "We don't normally do that."

An online search shows that it has been since at least 2003 that Bishop Montgomery surpassed 100 points.

"They kind of trapped and pressed, and our guys were just finding open players all night for easy layups," Mutrie said. "The tempo they were playing made it easy for us to score points."

Justin Bibbins added 11 points and 15 assists. Stephen Thompson Jr. had 11 points and Devin Means had 10 points for Bishop Montgomery, which is ranked 19th in California by Cal Hi Sports.

It marked win No. 501 for Bishop Montgomery head coach Doug Mitchell, who celebrated No. 500 on Monday night.
