BMHS Alum Appears on ABC's Shark Tank

Torrance, CA (December 5, 2012): Bishop Montgomery alumnus Scott Martin '97, the owner of The Living Christmas Company in Redondo Beach, appeared on the December 4th episode of ABC's Shark Tank in an effort to secure an investment from the "Sharks" on the show.

Through Martin's company, customers rent live Christmas trees, which are delivered directly to the home. Following the holidays, the trees are picked up and returned to Martin's nursery, where they continue to grow for rental (perhaps by the same family) the following year.

On Shark Tank, "contestants" pitch their product or business to a group of investors in hopes of forming a partnership. On the episode, Martin initially asked for a $150,000 investment for a 30% stake in his company. Despite most of the investors declining to take part in Martin's business, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was the one "shark" who decided to form a partnership with Martin. In the end, Cuban gave The Living Christmas Company the $150,000 for a 40% stake.
