Italian Classes Celebrate Feast of St. Joseph on Special Field Trip

Torrance, CA (March 26, 2012): On March 19, twenty-five students from BMHS' Italian 2, 3, and Honors Italian 4 classes took a field trip to St. Peter’s Italian Catholic Church in Downtown Los Angeles to attend a special Mass for the Feast of St. Joseph. Led by BMHS Italian teachers Carmelita Luhrsen and Linda Reano, and BMHS Chaplain Fr. Ed Benioff, the group enjoyed a day together enhancing their italian studies.

Especially memorable for the group was their participation in the St. Joseph's Day Mass. "Fr. Ed was invited to participate, including the reading of the Gospel, and some of our students were asked to do the readings and to bring up the Offertory Gifts," explained Reano. "Additionally, two of our boys were asked to help one of the parish volunteers untangle the rope in the bell tower so that the bell could be rung before Mass!"

Other highlights of the day included seeing the "Tavola di San Giuseppe" (table of St. Joseph) display in the church hall, and most importantly, enjoying the food, including spaghetti, pizza, and "some of the best cannoli ever," according to Reano.
