Habitat and Concordia Clubs Make Bunkbeds for Orphanage in Mexico

On February 25, students from Bishop Montgomery's Habitat Club and Concordia Club teamed up to make 20 bunkbeds for Covenant House Los Angeles to send to the Nino Jesus orphanage in Mexicali, Mexico. The beds will be part of a newly remodeled wing of the orphanage that has been designated for children 11-16 years old.

To make the beds, Bishop was lucky enough to have past parent Al Borgo on its side. Al arranged the materials, lent his shop, and educated students and faculty volunteers on the ins and outs of finished carpentry. The students had an absolute blast and the finished product was really something to be proud of. All of the finished components and a few "model" beds were loaded into a truck for transportation to the orphanage and on-site assembly.

In addition to the furniture building, Bishop Montgomery also coordinated an effort to collect linens for the bunkbeds. With the help of American Martyrs SRE students and St. James eighth grade families, Bishop Montgomery collected more than enough new pillows, sheets and blankets.  Through these efforts and the gift of an anonymous donation of mattresses, the orphanage's teen wing now has 40 complete beds, ensuring a warm and comfortable night's sleep for all of the teens.
