Torrance, CA (February 15, 2023): The BMHS boys' basketball team defeated Sierra Canyon 51-49 last night in a CIF-SS Open Division pool play game in front of a sold out crowd. Just after tip-off, new NBA all-time scorer LeBron James entered the BMHS gym to watch his son, Bronny, a senior at Sierra Canyon.
The game was close throughout. With just seconds to go, and the Knights trailing 49-48, BMHS senior Christian Jones '23 knocked down a 3-pointer from the right wing to give the Knights a two-point lead they would not relinquish. A desperation shot at the buzzer by Sierra Canyon was off the mark and the Knights escaped with the crucial win.
Xavier Edmonds '23 led the Knights with 24 points. LaQwon Cole '23 added 8 points and Jones had 7 points, including the game-winner.
The Knights travel to Centennial (Corona) on Friday night. The winner of that game will advance to the CIF-SS Open Division finals. Tip-off is 7:00pm
