In Loving Memory: George Swade
Former BMHS football coach, teacher and administrator George Swade passed away on November 19, 2022 after battling cancer.
Coach Swade was a pioneer in BMHS athletics. He served as the head football coach from 1962-1968 and led the Knights to the school's first league title. He also served as Athletic Director and taught several classes at BMHS. He is also the founder of the West Torrance Lions All-Star Football Game.
In 2011, Coach Swade was inducted into the inaugural class of the BMHS Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2019, the BMHS Football program named its annual Coaches Award in his honor. The Coach George Swade Award at BMHS is given to a football player who best exemplifies what it means to be a Bishop Montgomery football player and student-athlete.
In his words, "I'll see you on the ranch." Coach Swade was 89.
