Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Celebrates Induction

Torrance, CA (October 1, 2022): On Friday, September 30, the newest class of was inducted into the BMHS Athletic Hall of Fame in a ceremony on campus. Prior to the Knights 38-27 victory over Mary Star, BMHS honored the achievements and service of four alumni parents, one former coach and three alumni. 

Bob Blackburn, Al Egnatuk, George Graham and Ganus Ramstead were inducted posthumously for their service to the athletic department while their children were at BMHS in the 1960's and 1970's. Combined they had 11 children graduate from Bishop Montgomery.

Coach Carlos Cooper was the boys' soccer coach at BMHS for 12 seasons and led the Knights to the 1982-83 CIF-SS title and an unbeaten record.

Lisa Lewis '79 was the first black female to play varsity basketball at BMHS and was a 3-time all-league selection. She helped lead BMHS to two playoff appearances.

Mollie Meehan '86 was a 3-sport athlete at BMHS. She was the 1986 BMHS Female Athlete-of-the-Year and helped lead the 1985-86 girls' soccer team to a CIF title. She was 1st Team all-league and 1st Team All-CIF that year.

Niu Sale '88 was one of the best 2-way football players at BMHS and is the only player in school history to both pass and rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. He was a 2-time all-league and 2-time Daily Breeze All-Area selection and was the 1988 BMHS Male Athlete-of-the-Year.

At halftime of the game, the honorees were again recognized for their wonderful accomplishments.
