English II (Period 3)

This course examines the literary techniques and tools of literature and its overall themes in depth.  Students will study novels, poetry, short stories, speeches, essays and other forms of non-fiction in relation to their genre and technique.  Students will write several expository and analytical essays, whcih combine class notes and personal analysis, with emphasis on organization, focus, and sophisticated sentence structure.  The course goals align with the California Standards fo literature, grammar and writing, and public speaking.
