Course Description

Purpose

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the Church’s social teaching. In this course, students will learn how Christ’s concern for others, especially the poor and needy, is present today in the Church’s social teaching and mission. They will minister to their peers and the school community to reflect the Church’s social teachings and mission.

Course Descriptions

This course teaches students the skills needed to effectively minister to others in their peer group and beyond by presenting challenging lessons and experiences in the areas of Christian behavior, listening, prayer, liturgy, retreats, and liturgical events, all in the context of the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching which are the following:
  1. Life and Dignity of the Human Person
  2. Call to Family, Community, and Participation
  3. Rights and Responsibilities
  4. Preferential Option for the Poor
  5. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
  6. Solidarity
  7. Care for God's Creation
