This course examines the literary techniques and tools of literature, and its overall themes. Students will study novels, poetry, short stories, speeches, essays and other forms fo non-fiction in their relation to genre and technique. Students will write several expository and analytical essays, which combine class notes and personal analysis. The course goals align with the California Standards for literature, grammar, writing and public speaking.
