Algebra One (Period 2) Assignments

Due to the fact that the classes don't seem to completely understand the material, the The Chapter 6 exam is on Friday -- the classes are 10-minutes shorter, but it shouldn't matter at all.  Bring in a new scantron.  You realize that you are giving me less time to help you with your final exam studies so you should be doing that on your own.  I'm telling you exactly what's on the Final by giving you the Pre-final so this is on YOU.  It's 20% of your total grade and this isn't elementary school; this is a college prep school.  You have to study math to learn math but doing the same type of problem over and over again until you can do the problems in your sleep.  I've done everything I can for all of you and most of you have told me you like math now and it's easier.  Some of you ignore my lectures even when I go through every problem you still don't finish your pre-exams.  How does that happen?

Do both practice exams and bring them to class.  Also bring a quiz strip because the exam might be multiple choice...

Page 41: 1 - 39 all  Draw 

Here is your practice final exam with instructions on how to study.

 

Because of this practice exam, the average grade on the final is around 80% which means if you don't study, your parents will know.  You are the only kids in school that get a practice final on the math exam; use it to your advantage...  Bring it to class every day and ask questions...  We will go over it as a class as soon as we finish chapter 6.  I don't know how long that will take; we may have one day to review for the final or we might have 4 days -- it's up to you

Prepare for an exam or at the very least a quiz....

Kids; due the the fact that I had 7 kids come in for help tells me the long weekend kind of hurt all the learning we did the past two weeks so the Chapter 5 Exam is now on Tuesday the 18th, and we all better ace that test.  

Then we hit chapter six and we will review for your Semester final for three full days depending on how quickly we pick up the chapter six material.  

Print this out and bring this document to me before school to receive credit.

 

Your Pre-exam needs to be done in ink and it should look perfect.  Your pre-exam needs to be done; your practice exam that is due before school is just extra practice and does NOT need to be done in ink..

1.) You have a chapter 5 Exam today and you'll need a new quiz strip - if you have to ask for one during class, you lose 5-points.  Everyone is stressed and they don't need to be bothered helping someone out who is not prepared.

2) You will print out the "Practice Test" I have provided you and you will print it out Monday night and turn it into me before school on Tuesday; have all the right answers on it because I gave you the KEY.  DO NOT INCLUDE THE KEY WHEN YOU TURN IN THE PRACTICE TEST AND MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON IT.

3) You will turn in your Pre-exam done in ink and it will be perfect because I did all the problems on the board today and you will show all the work as I did to receive credit.  

Here is your chapter 6 pre-exam.  This is not an easy chapter -- things get hard now so you need to focus...

Page 36:  2 - 36 Even.  Write out the problem and graph when asked to graph...

Page 35: 1 - 15 draw all graphs and then do 19 - 27 and draw all the graphs making sure you use a straightedge, highlight your marks on your graph and the slope you get as well.

Pre-exam printed out and brought to class.  Do as much as you can at home so you can see what you don't know and I'll be able to help you.  We have less than 19 days of class until the Semester Final.  We will take half of that time to learn chapter 6 and then we will review the entire semester and do well on the Final Exam....

This pre-exam should be printed out and do as much of it as you can so you know what you don't know...  

Text Book:  Write the domain once, but write out the problems and show the work please.  Page 270:  33 - 22 All.  Then do 1 - 21 and then 34 - 42 following the directions.  Be neat!  We will review Friday and Wednesday and text chapter 5 on Thursday November 13th.

Here is the chapter 5 Pre-exam that is due that day you get back to school on Wednesday.  If I were you I would print it out now, give it to the teacher on Friday and then put it in my book so I have it on Wednesday

Print out the EXAM; do all work on the exam exactly as I've showed you and please highlight your answers.  

This should be an EASY 50 - points guys -- take all the time you need to finish it and get it to me BEFORE SCHOOL on Tuesday.  If your bus is late - there is nothing you can do about it so just give it to me after 1st period.  But I will check all work NOT turned in before school.  

Some of you asked me to put this online.  These are the problems we've been doing on the board.  You do NOT have to do these - they are extra practice.

Here is a practice word problem test -- if I made some mistakes in grammar or spelling, forgive me.  I put this together because one student asked that I put one online.  I wish all my students were like this.

Page 250: 15 - 23 & 26 - 37

Do a table of values and graph Absolute Value problems and Quadratic Equation problems.  

For Linear problems, just write them down and graph them.

Plan for your chapter 4 exam guys.  Redo the pre-exam and do it exactly how I did it on the board.  The kids that are doing the calculations with me are doing excellent work. The kids that are trying to just copy what I'm writing on the board are not learning anything; its like watching TV - you will recognize the questions but not know how to do them.  Doing great work in Algebra just takes a change in habits.  Do it my way for 21 school days and it will stick.  Wouldn't it be nice if from this point forward you understood everything that was going on in your math class...

Page 21:  Now we are just doing to "or" compound inequalities....  if the problem doesn't have the word "or" in it, you already did it.

Page 703: 1 - 49 odd.  Some of us are starting to get sloppy and skipping steps.  The reason you don't get a ton of homework is because you need to do all the steps.  Those of you who have improved your habits are going to do well and those of you who refuse or chose not to reform your study habits are going to find this to be a very difficult class; and its not difficult.

Page 15:  1 - 12, 25 - 32, and 39 - 46.  Show all the arrows and every step.  Remember, we are just executing rules.  If you don't get it done in class DO NOT do it for homework.  If you forget what I taught you and start practicing doing it wrong then we have to start over so we are just doing this during class.

 

Ignore what the problem looks like, focus on a rule you see and execute the rule and repeat.  Just learn the rules of math and you'll be doing calculus before summer!

Page 13:  33 - 1 Backwards so I can assist you if you have issues with the harder problems.

 

 

Page 122:  45 - 25 all, solve and check each and every problem and be neat.  

 

Print out the word problems attached and at the very least, set them up into an equation...

No Homework this weekend; you just took an exam and you're now learning about word problems so take a break.  I've attached 5 word problems that you can play with if you want but it's just for fun.

Chapter 1 Exam

Copy your pre-exam onto a clean sheet of graph paper and do the work in pen and show as many steps as possible.  We will start this in class and you will finish it for homework.  To study; I would print out a fresh copy of the pre-exam, do the work without my notes and then see if I showed all the steps.  

On a clean sheet of graph paper you are going to write out each problem from the pre-exam and show every step and highlight your answers.  We will start this in class and you can finish it as homework.  

 

To study, do this a second time but don't use your notes and see if you do just as well.  This part isn't mandatory.  

Pre-exam is due in pencil.  It's a holiday weekend but you are expected to do the work to prepare for the exam.

Bring in the Pre-exam!  We will do it in class and see what we need to work on....

Big Book:  Page 702:  1 - 65 ALL

This is a review of the entire chapter.  We will go over the pre-exam on Friday (tomorrow) and then you will do the pre-exam on your own during the weekend.  

Then we will review the pre-exam in class on Tuesday (the day you get back) and you will do the pre-exam a 2nd time in pen that night and turn that in for points on Wednesday.  You will take the exam on Wednesday...  You'll get used to how we do things soon.  Remember, just learn the steps (rules) of math and you can do almost any kind of math...

Page 702: 1 - 65 all and show all the work.  Print out your pre-exam and bring it to class.  You don't have to do it; just bring it to class..

Page 7: 54 - 2 Even numbered problems.  Show arrows and underline like terms.  You should all have your workbooks now.

Page 6; 48 - 2 Evens.  Please be sure to do every single step.

Page 5 in work book:  39 - 1 All  We are doing it backwards so I can help you with the hardest problems and you can do the easy ones when you do you home work at 10 p.m..

Page 3:  13 - 24 all.  Be neat and write out the problem.... 

Print out this Pre-exam and bring it to class for points.  You know you need this by Friday so there will be no excuse if you don't have one.

Work Book: Page 2:  51 - 1 Odd.  Show all the steps as I did them on the board for you.....  I've attached the page to this assignment

Go to the contract on the last page and follow the directions.  You need to staple these at home.  I've provided an example so you know what to do; don't stress, just do the work and you'll be fine.  Do every section and look at the example and see how a long section can easily be put into a small section.  Don't make a big deal out of this -- just read each section, write a short summary of each section and that's it.  Use the contract as the first page and then your summary after it and staple it before you get to class.  I just want to see if you can follow directions and what kind of work you do and this tells me; make a great first impression.....  

Please make sure you bring your text book, your work book, NON-SPIRAL GRAPH PAPER along a pencil or something to do your work; pen is acceptable as long as it is neat
