Welcome to Mr Vincent Nguyen's Theology Class!

Dear Parents & Students,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Academic Year! Thank you for visiting my webpage. This is my second year here at Bishop Montgomery High School. On this page below, you will find the syllabus which explains the content of the course and student expectations.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy with minors in Theology & Spanish (Magna Cum Laude) from St John's University in Jamaica, NY and is in the process of completing my Master of Arts in Theology. I have also completed 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education as a chaplain in the hospital, and certified to teach religion by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Currently, I am teaching theology courses for sophomores and seniors. For sophomores, the course in the Fall is The Paschal Mystery: The Mission of Jesus Christ, while the Spring is The Mission of Jesus Christ continued in the Church.  In the past, I have taught theology for seniors and Pre-Algebra during the Summer.

My desire is to guide all my students to grow in the awareness of the hands of God already at work in their lives and to live every moment in actualizing the person that God has called them to be. Part of this is learning to love and embrace themselves: the up's and down's, gifts and talents, one's brokenness, etc. It is in embracing one's brokenness that one truly grows and become a "wounded healer," seeing one's wounds as an opportunity to encounter others with empathy and compassion. For it was through Christ's wounds and brokenness that brought forth salvation.

"I will live the present moment and fill it with love. A straight line consists of millions of little points. Likewise, a lifetime consists of millions of seconds and minutes joined together. If every single point along the line is rightly set, the line will be straight. If every minute of a life is good, that life will be holy" (Venerable Francis Xavier Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan).

Blessings,

Mr Nguyen
