Thompson, Jr. Breaks Career Scoring Record

Torrance, CA ( February 12, 2015): Bishop Montgomery senior guard Stephen Thompson, Jr. '15 continued to make headlines last night when he became the school's career points leader in the Knights' 85-70 win at home over Serra. With the victory, BMHS finished the regular season 26-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the Del Rey League. It was Bishop's third straight league title.

Heading into the game, Thompson, Jr. needed 23 points to break the career scoring mark of 2,113 points held by Errick Craven '01. At one point, it looked as though Thompson would reach the mark in the first half. With just under six minutes to play in the third quarter, Thompson broke the record on a driving layup. He finished the game with 34 points for the Knights and sits at 2,125 points with the playoffs still to come.

The Knights will head to the playoffs as one of the top seeds in the CIF-SS Open Division. They are ranked third in the Los Angeles Times southern California poll and in the CalHiSports state rankings. Nationally, BMHS is ranked 16th by USA Today and 23rd by MaxPreps.
