BMHS Senior Earns Perfect ACT Score

Torrance, CA (November 5, 2014): It is a rare feat when a high school is home to a student who receives a perfect score on the SAT or the ACT. Of the millions of students who take those exams each year, a microscopic percentage earn perfect scores. Now, Bishop Montgomery is home to two "perfect" students.

Last December, we chronicled the accomplishment of now-BMHS senior Samantha Nishimura '15, who earned a perfect score of 2400 on her SAT. Of the 1.6 million students who took the SAT that year, only a few hundred recorded a perfect score.

Now, Nishimura is joined in elite company by her classmate, David Kim '15, who scored a perfect 36 in his composite score on the ACT he took in September. It was his first time taking the test.

Kim's journey to Bishop Montgomery is nothing short of interesting. After spending much of his life in his native South Korea, Kim and his family moved to Canada when David was in eighth grade. After a year living in Canada, the family settled in southern California. Kim spent his freshman year at Calvary Baptist in La Verne before arriving at BMHS as a sophomore, and he has thrived here.

Not only is Kim an outstanding student, he is actively involved in many organizations at school. This year, he founded Bishop's Model UN Club. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and he is on the Knightlife staff.

With plans to double major in business and computer science in college, Kim has applied to Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, UCSD, Cal Berkeley, UC Irvine, and Cal Tech.

When asked what his reaction was when he learned of his score, Kim was, at first, hesitant that it was even true. "My score did not come out until a few weeks after everyone else I knew received their scores so I was anxious," Kim says. "When I saw my score, I wondered if I was seeing it correctly."
