Jr. High Summer Academy Welcomes Over 200 Students to Campus

On July 8, Bishop Montgomery launched its first Summer Academy, welcoming 200 middle school students to campus for academic classes and athletic camps.  Students, having quickly settled in, are enjoying unique learning opportunities in classes like Harry Potter for Muggles, Hunger Games and American Culture, Math-Magicians, Introduction to Athletic Training, and Screenwriting 101.  Many of the students have chosen a combined academic and athletic experience and, in addition to time in the classroom, are also taking advantage of sports camps and training with Bishop's own varsity coaches. With over 18 classes and 8 camps to choose from, the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are enjoying academy curricula that they have tailored to their own interests.

The junior high students represent over 25 schools from the South Bay and Los Angeles area, including schools as far north as St. Jerome in Westchester and as far south as St. Cornelius in Long Beach.  A majority of the students in attendance attend local middle and elementary schools including St. James, St. Lawrence Martyr, Riviera Hall Lutheran School, St. Catherine Laboure, Parras Middle School, and St. Margaret Mary. The Summer Academy classes conclude on July 18; sports camps run over various days and weeks during the month of July.  For more information on the Junior High Summer Academy, click here.
