Senior Named 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholar

Torrance, CA (May 6, 2014): Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the selection of Bishop Montgomery senior Angela Francis '14 as a 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholar. Francis is one of only 141 high school seniors who are "recognized for outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community." Francis was one of close to 4,000 nominees nationwide. Francis, along with the other scholars, will be honored for her accomplishments in Washington, D.C. from June 22-25.

Francis, an accomplished and published photographer, is one of 20 students from the National YoungArts Foundation to be honored for her artistic excellence. In fact, she is the only photographer to be recognized. This award, presented on behalf of the President of the United States, is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an artistically talented graduating high school senior.

In addition to meeting the President, Francis will have her photography showcased at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and at The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
