Bishop Ambassadors Spend "An Evening with Angels"

Torrance (October 9, 2012): On Friday October 5, one of Bishop Montgomery High School’s student service clubs, Bishop Ambassadors, volunteered at the Catholic Charities of Los Angeles’ “An Evening With Angels” fundraiser. This year’s event, held at The Reef on the Water in Long Beach, recognized and celebrated outstanding parish and community volunteers in the San Pedro Region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. "Evening with Angels is currently our largest single fundraiser of the year in the San Pedro Region,” explained Audrey Bellis, co-chairperson of the event and Advisory Board member at Catholic Charities, Los Angeles. “It is our moment to honor the people in our local parishes who start ministries, who go above and beyond, who make a difference every day as outstanding volunteers. To be in a room with 320 guests that all share the same goal - to support the homeless, elderly, and food insecure - is a sense of support like no other.

The dinner and silent auction was once again hosted by the Most Reverend Bishop Oscar Solis and it was the third year Bishop Montgomery sent a team of student ambassadors to help at the event. The Bishop Ambassadors, under the guidance of moderator, and BMHS religion teacher John Fitzsimons, served as hosts and hostesses, helped with seating, sold raffle tickets, circulated amongst the guests, and helped with the silent auction. At the end of the evening, they helped with the tallying and delivery of the auction items and helped at checkout.

"The [Bishop] Ambassadors are one the biggest breaths of fresh air for both us putting on the event and the guests attending,” explained Bellis. They are always professional, model young adults, without whom we would struggle to keep the evening on time, especially in the silent auction room."
