Torrance, CA (January 20, 2022): Bishop Montgomery Boys' Basketball Head Coach Doug Mitchell notched his 750th career win last night with the Knights 68-59 win over Del Rey League-rival Serra High School. The Knights were led on the court by Jalen Vazquez '22 with 17 points and Kelcy Phipps '23 with 16.
Mitchell is the 16th winningest coach in California state history in career prep boys' basketball wins. His career started at his alma mater, South Torrance, where he won 11 games from 1987-1989. In 1989-90, Mitchell arrived at Bishop Montgomery and in 33 years, he has won 739 games and led the BMHS program to great heights. He has led the program to six CIF-SS titles and 4 State titles. His Bishop Montgomery teams have qualified for CIF-SS playoffs every year under his guidance and have 22 seasons with 20 or more wins.
