About Me

I am in my 13th year of teaching and in my 6th year of teaching at Bishop Montgomery. Prior to Bishop, I taught at Our Lady of Guadalupe for 7 years teaching Kindergarten and 4th grade. Here at Bishop, I serve as the Director of Campus Ministry. I coordinate and run the retreat programs in addition to teaching the Campus Ministry class. I hold a CA Clear Multiple Subject Credential and received my Religion Certification through the Diocese of Los Angeles.

Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of teaching basically follows what Aristotle states that “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” It is not just about getting students to Harvard and Heaven. I want them to have a glimpse of Heaven on earth. For me, it is about enlightening minds to make a change in the world and directing hearts to find Christ in one another. When students learn to recognize Christ in each other they are seeing just a piece of heaven, and it is then that their education outside of the classroom begins. All of the knowledge in the world will not be meaningful to a person if they don’t know how to use it. A child might know all the sounds and letters, but without examples of how language is used, one cannot communicate. A young adult may have knowledge of what is right or wrong, but not know how to choose for themselves.

In teaching, I implore my students to look not for who is right or wrong, but for what is right and what is truth. I strive for my students to seek truth and beauty in the world by recognizing the image and likeness of God in each other. Dr. Martin Luther King talks about what true education is when he says, “Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.” In a world filled with people driven for success at any cost, I hope my students discover how true success is based more on the lives they touch and affect than on how much they receive or make. As Campus Minister, I strive to have my class be peer leaders. I hope they serve their peers helping all to see the talents and gifts God has given them.
