Dear BMHS Community,
I am currently the Student Support Counselor for Amerigo Education. I joined Amerigo Education in September 2019 to help Bishop Montgomery's International Students find success in their international educational experience. I have the pleasure of helping our students be successful in their academics and navigating the university application system here in the United States. With a background in counseling, I am also able to provide our students with brief, solution-focused counseling for social-emotional challenges including but not limited to: homesickness, managing stress, and study skills.
My experience prior to working with Amerigo Education includes a background in elementary and middle school counseling, but my passion has always been to work with high-school students in helping them reach their college and career dreams! As a first-generation college student, education has always been important to me, and being able to learn about international education has been such an amazing experience.
As a Redondo Beach native, I graduated from Redondo Union High School in 2009 and attended El Camino College after graduation. After a few years at El Camino, I transferred to UCLA and received my Bachelors in Sociology in 2015. From 2015-2017, I worked at Redondo Union High School as an AVID Tutor where I learned the ins-and-outs of helping underrepresented students apply to a 2 or 4-year university.
In 2017, I moved to San Diego to begin my Masters program at University of San Diego. During my Masters program, I learned a lot about multiculturalism/cultural competency and working with Amerigo Education has been an excellent way to strengthen those skills! I graduated from USD with a Masters in Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (K-12) in May 2019. My position with Amerigo is my first job in the counseling field and I am so thrilled that I also have the opportunity to learn about private, Catholic school education at Bishop Montgomery!
As a counselor, my goal is to not only teach our international students the skills needed to succeed academically, but also socially! I seek to have our international students involved in the BMHS community and engaged in our American culture; I also love learning about our students' different cultures and when they share them with the community, as well!
