From the moment he stepped on campus, Justin Bibbins had an impact on the boys’ basketball program. The 2014 BMHS Male Athlete-of-the-Year, Bibbins was a 4-year letterwinner, a 4-time 1st Team All-Del Rey League selection and a 3-time Daily Breeze All-Area pick. As a sophomore, he was named to the all-state sophomore team. As a junior, he earned all-state junior team status by CalHiSports. As a senior, he delivered his finest performance. He was named Del Rey League MVP, Daily Breeze Player of the Year, 1st Team All-CIF, 1st Team All-State Elite Team and he was the State Division 4 Player of the Year after leading BMHS to the state title. That team still holds the state record for largest margin of victory in a championship game (41 points). He also received the 2014 Division 4 John Wooden Player of the Year Award. He is one of five players in school history to record a triple-double and he is 7th in program history in career points with 1,875. Following graduation, he went on to play at Long Beach State for three seasons. He was named 2nd Team All-Big West Conference twice. After earning his degree, he played for one season at the University of Utah where he was named 1st Team All-Pac-12 Conference. He has played professionally overseas, primarily in France, since 2018.
Stephen Thompson, Jr. ‘15 / Class of 2025
Perhaps one of the best ways to sum up Stephen Thompson, Jr.’s BMHS career is to say that he is a winner. In his four years as a varsity basketball player, the team had a record of 114-15. He led the team to 3 league titles, 1 CIF title and 1 State title. He won so many awards that it is almost impossible to list them all. Among his awards, he was named 1st Team All-Del League 3 times, All-CIF twice and All-State 3 times. As a junior, he helped lead the Knights to the Division 4 State title. He was named 2nd Team All-CIF, 1st Team All-State Junior Team and 2nd Team All-State Elite Team. As a senior in 2014-15, Thompson, Jr. led BMHS to its first CIF Open Division title where he was named CIF Open Division Player of the Year. Also that year, he was named Daily Breeze Player of the Year, 1st Team All-State Elite Team, Division 4 John Wooden Player of the Year, and 5th Team MaxPreps All-American. He finished his career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,246 points, a record that still holds today. He also holds the program records for single season points scored with 803 and scoring average at 24.3 points per game. He went on to a decorated career at Oregon State where he is 5th in all-time scoring with 1,767 points and 1st in career three pointers made with 230 and attempts with 677. In 2019, Thompson, Jr. was named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He has played professionally both overseas and in the NBA G-League and in 2024, he played for the Puerto Rican National team at the Paris Olympics, becoming the 5th alumnus to compete in the Olympic Games.
