2022-2023 School Year Information

Welcome BMHS Students to the 2022-2023 School Year!

We would like to share some important dates and information about the upcoming school year at Bishop Montgomery High School. As always, if you have any questions about BMHS or any of the information below, please feel free to contact us at (310) 540-2021 at anytime or email using the Staff Directory on the BMHS website.

All students must purchase their own Chromebook by the first day of school Wednesday, August 17, 2022 (freshmen) and Thursday, August 18, 2022 (sophomores - seniors). A student’s Chromebook must continue to receive security updates throughout their four years at BMHS. This “Automatic Update Expiration” can be found here. Pre-owned Chromebooks that continue to receive security updates through a student’s graduation date are acceptable. All Chromebooks will have their local content and settings deleted, and Chromebooks will be managed by the BMHS Technology Department prior to student use at BMHS. Chromebooks are to be used for school, not personal use. Students are responsible for any damage, loss, or theft of their Chromebook. All BMHS technology policies apply to the usage of Chromebooks both on and off campus. Technology school policies may be found in the parent-student handbook. For questions about purchasing a Chromebook or our Chromebook program, please contact our Ed Tech Coordinator Mr. Brian Adams: [email protected]

2022-23 PLANNER

On the first day of school, all students will receive their own 2022-23 planner, or BMHS Agenda. This spiral notebook includes a month-by-month school calendar, including daily schedule of class periods, activities, and athletics. The Agenda also includes the entire Parent/Student Handbook, as well as a weekly planner which allows students to record their homework and class projects and plan their time accordingly. Additional planners will be available for purchase at Back-to-School Night on Monday, August 29 should parents wish to have their own copy. For questions about our BMHS school calendar, please contact our Vice Principal Ms. Vigon-Morffi: [email protected]

During July, you will receive a letter with your student's Schedule of Classes in the mail-- this schedule will indicate the classes in which your student has been enrolled, as well as each class' period and classroom number. You will also receive your student's locker number for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Academic Counselors are looking forward to seeing you at the beginning of the year! Class changes due to the completion of a summer class will be completed until Friday, September 2.

Our Academic Counselors will assist students beginning August 15, 2022 as follows:

Parents and students will be able to access the 2022-2023 school year in Aeries beginning on August 11, 2022. At that time, we encourage parents to complete the Data Confirmation Process in Aeries to ensure that we have your most up-to-date contact information on file. Please note that Aeries has modified the URL for the parent and student portals. Both students and parents will be able to access their Aeries account by clicking here.

All students have summer reading assignments. Students are expected to have completed all summer reading by the first day of school. Please note that some classes have multiple books required for summer reading. The summer reading book lists for each grade level are available on the BMHS website by clicking here.

All students are expected to have all of their textbooks on the first day of school, August 17 (freshmen) / August 18 (sophomores, juniors, seniors). The book lists for all grade levels are listed by department on the BMHS website under the Academics tab >> Book List. Please click here to visit that page. You may purchase books from any vendor (e.g., Amazon, eBay, Edlio), but please be sure to check each book's ISBN number to ensure you are purchasing the correct book, as many books have different editions or volumes. PE and art courses do not require textbooks. Used books may be purchased from current BMHS students, but, again, please check the title AND the book's ISBN number to make sure you are purchasing the correct book.  And, if purchasing through Amazon, please remember to use smile.amazon.com and "Bishop Montgomery High School" to support BMHS.

Uniforms may be purchased at Norman's Uniform store in San Pedro or via their website here. Students who are not enrolled in a P.E. course for the 2022-23 school year do not have to purchase a PE uniform. Please note that Bishop Montgomery does not have a Mass uniform; students wear their regular uniforms to Mass at BMHS. All students are expected to be in full uniform on the first day of classes.

For the first day of school, all students should bring notebook paper, pens and pencils, and a folder or binder to store teacher handouts. Teachers will let students know what specific supplies will be necessary for their classes. Please click here for a list of faculty and contact information.

Each family is required to complete 10 hours each semester (20 hours per year) of parent school hours (or pay $350 in lieu of hours worked). There are a variety of PSI opportunities available throughout the school year. Our BMHS Weekly Update email will contain information about these opportunities including security for parking/supervision for 2022-23 athletic events, dances, and other co-curricular activities; Mothers' Club activities; and, Booster Club activities.

All families are required to enroll with Blackbaud for Bishop tuition payments. If you haven't done so already, please sign up for Blackbaud today via this link. Bishop Montgomery's school code is 13046. Blackbaud/tuition questions? For questions, please contact our Tuition Manager Ms. Mary Ann Guzman: [email protected]

For the past few years, Bishop's students, faculty, and staff have practiced The Examen together once a week as a way to carry on the celebration of the Catholic values on which BMHS was founded. The Daily Examen is a technique of prayerful reflection on the day's events in order to detect God's presence and discern His direction for us. The Examen is an ancient practice in the Church that helps us see God's hand at work in our daily lives. Through school-wide prayer and silent reflection each week for 5-7 minutes, our community will observe the five-step Examen that St. Ignatius practiced: Become aware of God's presence all around us; review the week with gratitude and conviction; pay attention to our emotions; choose one grace or virtue to ask the Lord to give us; and, look optimistically toward God's providence in our lives.

All freshmen and sophomores will participate in one on-campus day retreat during their first semester at Bishop Montgomery. Students attend during school hours with their Theology class on one pre-assigned day. Juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to sign-up for an overnight retreat. Sign-ups will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will fill up quickly. Interested students are encouraged to sign-up immediately upon the posting of information. For more information about our retreat program, please contact Campus Minister Ms. Amy Hendry: [email protected]

If your student is interested in competing for Bishop Montgomery as a student-athlete, please click here for general information about our athletic department. For specific inquiries, please contact our Athletic Director Mr. Doug Mitchell: [email protected]

BMHS School Physicals All BMHS students participating in a conditioning or sports program must have an up-to-date physical on file with BMHS prior to participation in a program. Please click here to download and complete the medical history evaluation form. Thank you!
