<div><span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'">Using the white construction paper provided, students are to </span><span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'">create a poster and chart of US Territorial Expansion through 1860. The chart will include date acquired, previous owner and the circumstances of the acquisition AND a map that illustrates the land involved – Chart/map includes: Original US, Louisiana Purchase, British Cession (1818), Spanish Cession (1819), Texas Annexation, Oregon Country, Mexican Cession, and the Gadsden Purchase (**Hint – these are listed in the order the US acquired them!**). I have a box of crayons/colored pencils on the front podium if the students would like to use them. </span></div><br>

<li>Describe the changes in American religion and their effects on culture and social reform.</li>

<li>Explain why abolitionism was at first unpopular in the North and describe how it gradually gained strength.</li>
<li>Describe the fierce southern response to abolitionism and the growing defense of slavery as a “positive good.&quot;</li>
