Zuanich Heating Up For Modesto
To be ablBMHS alumnus and Colorado Rockies prospect Mike Zuanich '04 is starting to heat up as the weather gets warmer this summer. Zuanich, who plays for the Rockies High Class A affiliate in Modesto, CA, is a first baseman and outfielder. For a recent story about Zuanich, click here.

Zuanich '04 Promoted to Modesto
Former Knights' baseball standout Mike Zuanich '04, a member of the Colorado Rockies organization, was recently promoted to Hi-A Modesto of the California League. Zuanich began the season at Low-A Asheville before suffering a wrist injury. Once healed, he was sent to Tucson and the Rockies extended spring training facility to rehab. He was then promoted to Modesto as he makes his climb up the Rockies organization. Click here to read an article from the Modesto Bee about Zuanich.


Hodgkiss Named New Football Coach
Ed Hodgkiss was named BMHS' new football coach on February 10, 2010. Hodgkiss formerly served as head coach of the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League. He also coached collegiately at Morehead State, Randolph-Macon and Fairmont State. For a complete story from the Daily Breeze on his hiring, click here.

Two Football Players Sign Letters-of-Intent

Two Knights football standouts, Una Hamala '10 and Matthew Simmons '10 , signed their national letters-of-intent on February 3, 2010 in front of their friends and family in a ceremony in the BMHS gymnasium. Hamala, an outstanding linebacker for the Knights, signed with the University of San Diego. Simmons, a receiver and defensive back, signed with Washington State.

Jones '05 Earns All-America Honors
Former Knights football standout Josh Jones '05, a senior at Harding University, was named to the 1st Team Associated Press Little All-America Team after finishing in a tie for 2nd in the nation (Division II) with 8 interceptions. Jones was also named a 1st Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. For more on Jones, click here.

Three Runners Compete at State Finals
On Saturday, November 28, three BMHS cross country runners competed at the state cross country championships in Fresno. Senior Andy Cannata '10 placed 10th in the Division IV race with a time of 16:02. With his top-10 finish, Cannata earned a spot on the All-State cross country team, the first BMHS runner in school history to earn this honor. In the Division IV girls' race, freshman Danielle Shanahan '13 placed 12th with a time of 18:47. Sophomore Annie Grove '12 finished 15th in 18:53.

Two Sign Letters-of-Intent

BMHS Seniors Rachel Clark '10 and Kim Kurata '10 signed their national letters-of-intent on Monday, November 16 in a ceremony in the BMHS gymnasium. Clark will continue her volleyball career at the University of Virginia. Kurata signed to continue her softball career at Fairfield University in Connecticut.

New Sports Leagues Set for 2010-2014
The BMHS Athletic Department has announced the new sports league assignments that BMHS teams will compete in beginning in the 2010-2011 school year. The re-leaguing will be in effect through the end of the 2014 school year. For a complete list, click here.

Former Knight Turns in Big Season

Former BMHS baseball standout Mike Zuanich '04 finished his second summer in the Colorado Rockies organization in fine fashion. The first baseman/outfielder made two stops this summer, first in Tri-Cities, WA and then in Asheville, NC. At Short Season Tri-Cities, Zuanich hit .340 with 7 homeruns and 16 RBI in only 15 games before being promoted to Lo-A Asheville. Zuanich's torrid summer didn't end there. In 42 games in Asheville, Zuanich hit .362 with 7 homeruns and 34 RBI while helping the Tourists to the 2nd half championship in the South Atlantic League. Former Knight Scores First Collegiate Goal
On September 23, 2009, former Lady Knights soccer standout Shelbie Luna '09 scored her first collegiate goal for the University of New Mexico in their win over Northern Colorado. For more on Luna's first goal, click here. New Mexico is currently 8-0-2 and they are coached by former BMHS soccer standout Kit Schwartzman-Vela '86.

Carmelita Jeter '98 Clocks 2nd Fastest 100m Ever

On September 20, 2009, Carmelita Jeter '98 became the 2nd fastest woman in history when she ran a 10.64 100m at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix.

On September 13, 2009 Carmelita Jeter '98 won the women's 100 meters at the World Athletics final in Greece in a time of 10.67. Her time in that event was the third fastest ever by a woman. Only world-record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49) has run a faster 100m time.

Rudy Garbalosa '85 Wins NCAA Title
Rudy Garbalosa '85, a former BMHS baseball standout and head baseball coach, led Lynn University (FL) to the 2009 NCAA Division II baseball title. It was the first baseball national championship in school history for the Fighting Knights. Lynn defeated Emporia State 2-1 in the championship game. Garbalosa was an outstanding player at BMHS and later served as head baseball coach for four years (1991-1994) before moving on to the college coaching ranks. Recent BMHS graduate Christian Koppenhaver '09 will be a freshman for Lynn and Garbalosa in the fall. For more information on Lynn's national championship, go to www.lynn.edu/athletics.
