Mr. Mitchell is currently in his 31st year at BMHS. He serves as the Head Academic Counselor. Prior to moving into the counseling office, Mr. Mitchell taught in the social studies department, primarily as a U.S. History teacher. In addition to being the counselor for students with last names beginning with A – Le, he is in his 31st season as the head coach for the boys’ basketball program. He is regarded as one of the top high school basketball coaches in the state and has over 700 career wins.
 
Mr. Mitchell is a 1976 graduate of South Torrance High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1988. He completed his secondary teaching credential in social studies at Mount St. Mary’s College and he is currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Educational Administration at National University.
 
Mr. Mitchell enjoys being an academic counselor because of the one-on-one contact that he has with the outstanding students here at Bishop Montgomery. Mr. Mitchell and his wife, Elaine, have two children, Lauren and Drew. Mr. Mitchell enjoys spending time with his friends and family and following the Duke University basketball team.
