IN ITALY!
Rome | Vatican City | Naples | Pompeii
BMHS students are invited to enjoy 7 days and 6 nights touring Rome, Naples (the Mediterranean Coast), and Pompeii, with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to sing for Pope Francis at his Papal Audience, provide a musical escort for the Holy Father, provide a musical concert in St. Peter's Square, and serve as the church choir during a mass at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
This trip is also designed to be an educational tour for any Bishop students who wish to travel abroad and tour Italy-- the band and choral performances are optional. The trip will coincide with Bishop's spring break, Monday, March 28 - Monday, April 4, 2016.
The tour is open to current members of the BMHS music and world language departments, including Music Ministry (choir), Band, Color Guard; and, students in any of our Italian, Spanish, French, German and Latin classes, as well as incoming freshmen (Class of 2019). Parents and siblings are also welcome. (Non-BMHS siblings must have parent accompaniment.) The specific music and routines performed by the music department ensemble will depend on student participation and the final ensemble makeup.
This incredible tour is scheduled to include:
- Choir performance at St. Peter's Basilica for 5:00pm weekday parish Mass
- Choir performance at St. Peter's Basilica/St. Peter's Square for Papal Divine Mercy Sunday Mass on April 3
- Driving tours of Rome and Naples
- Walking tours of the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica (Michelangelo's Pieta, new tomb of St. John Paul II), Cathedral of St. John Lateran, St. Sebastian's Chapel, Vatican museums, Vatican crypt, Church of St. Peter in Chains, Michelangelo's Moses, Arch of Titus, the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Imperial Rome, Christian Rome, Naples and Pompeii
- Audience with the Holy Father, Pope Francis, and entrance through the Holy Door for Plenary Indulgence
- Chaperoned free-time for shopping and enjoying Rome and Naples in early spring
The trip includes round-trip airfare on Iberia Airlines; 6 nights double occupancy hotel; 6 breakfasts and dinners; on-site Italian and English-speaking tour manager; private coach bus; local tour guides; all entrance fees and tickets; and, all-inclusive travel insurance. The inclusive cost per person is $3,750 ($3,400 + $350 fuel surcharge). Initial deposits are due September 14, 2015. To defray costs, BMHS department-sponsored fundraising opportunities will be available; however, students and families will be ultimately responsible for meeting payment deadlines.
